  *Linda Yates for Rebecca Wellman

SWEEPS - see below for results

It's that rainy time of year again and sweeps were cancelled on February 17th.   However, on February 24th,19 Lady Niners showed up to play our first Special Game Day of the year - the Yellow and White game.  As rain arrived earlier than predicted, some of the players opted to find drier venues.  The rest of us pulled out every piece of rain gear we could find in our golf bags to finish the round.  We really had a lot of laughs and pictures weretaken in the Pro Shop to verify our ordeal! Thank you Captain JoAnn for scheduling these Special Game Days. April 21st will bring a "2 lady team Alternate Shot" game.Time to pick out your partner.

It's nice not to have to start out my edition with a weather report, what a nice    change.  So let's get straight to the subject of new members, golf and activities.

New Members:
Please join me in welcoming Jeanine Haggerty as our newest member.  Jeanine brings the total active members to 101 along with the 20 social members.  And speaking of new members, on April 19th, Donna James and Shirley Glass hosted a wonderful Welcome New Member Luncheon at the West Recreation Center.  It was a terrific turnout with new members as well as officers and board attending.  JoAnn spoke to the ladies about our club, our PWGA rules of play and introduced each board member who in turn gave a short synopsis of the club duties they perform.   I know our newest members were most appreciative and look forward to playing lots of great golf with us not only this year but for years to come.

Oakmont News - June 15th, 2011 edition
9-Hole Thursday Women's Club
Rebecca Wellman, Publicity Chair

Summer officially gets off the ground on the 21st; hopefully we can count on the continuation of warm days with endless golfing opportunities. The month of June started out with more club activities than anyone could actually keep track of.  John Yacobellis started the ball rolling with a salute to Women in Golf on the 4th, the Lady Niners followed the next day with Guys, Gals and Pals Derby Day Invitational, Luncheon and Horse Races; then North Bay Women's Golf Association gathered on the 6th followed by a slight reprieve until June 13th' when our hugely popular Monday Twilighter (with Andy and Elly Frauenhofer at the helm) took center stage.  I must confess that since I'm writing this article prior to these events actually happening and since I do not own a crystal ball, you will need to wait for the July 1st Oakmont News article with attached results and pictures to see how delightful each of these amazing events were!

Upcoming Events and Reminders:
Linda Yates has asked me to remind our members that July 7th is the start of Wren's President's Cup qualifying rounds.  She has posted all the details and dates in the East Pro Shop.  Please remember that there is no sign up form and no associated fee to qualify for the Oakmont Team.  If you aren't a member and would like to do so prior to the first round be sure to give Linda a call at 538-3636.   Linda is very anxious for us to bring that coveted trophy back home where it belongs!  Other reminder requests come from  PWGA Director Henni Williston, who reminds us that the Niner's will host the PWGA Nine Hole Member and Guest Invitational and Luncheon on July 14th and that she too has posted the pertinent information and Captain JoAnn  would like to remind that August 11th the Oakmont Women Niners Member and Guest Invitational will be held.  Our very creative 2011 Invitational Committee is presently a bit secretive, hinting only that patience will reward and to start planning our foursomes now.

Another upcoming special event for Oakmont Golf Club will be on Saturday, July 23rd, when B.R. Cohn Winery presents their Wine Club Twilight Golf Tournament and 5-Course Wine Dinner.  The Event is open to members of B.R. Cohn Wine Clubs, their families and friends as well as Oakmont residents.  Included will be nine holes of golf on the West Course, golf cart with GPS, Practice range and balls, welcome gift, and tee prizes.  Check-in at 2:00 PM, Shotgun Start at 3:30 PM.  No host cocktails will be available after golf from 6pm to 7:00pm on the Quail Inn scenic deck.  B.R. Cohn in collaboration with Ehrin Cadigan have specially designed a five course Wine Club Dinner created to celebrate fabulous food paired with complementing B. R. Cohn award winning wines beginning at 7:15 pm.  Be sure to check out the posters in both the East and West Pro Shops.  For more information please contact B. R. Cohn Wine Club Directors, Rebecca Wellman at 931-7929 or Darlene McGinnis at 931-7933 .   For all Tournament Entries and Dinner Reservations please contact Jim Carra, Director of Golf at (707) 539-0415.   *Special pricing available for Oakmont Golf Club members.

We'd like to thank our hardworking Sweeps May Scorers, Josie Di Benedetto and Janie Rietow

Cheers!

Oakmont News - September 15th Edition
Thursday 9-Hole Women's Club
Rebecca Wellman, Publicity Chair

September is moving along with beautiful days and enjoyable golf games.  Our sweeps games are filled with enthusiastic ladies and our tournaments and events are experiencing good participation as well.  As you read this article, our WREN's Q-tees got an early start today as they headed up to Hidden Valley Lake for great golf, pretty good food and outlandish fun and of course they do love bringing home those winner bragging rights.  I'm sure our sweet Linda Yates will have many details to share in the next Club article in the Oakmont News; I for one can hardly wait.  Other upcoming games and tournaments have us playing on September 22nd a Tee to Green game on the West, then our NBWGA contingent are busy readying themselves for the September 26th 18-hole tournament at Kennedy Park in Napa, followed by North Bay's Championship at Windsor the second week of October.  Linda and I hope to encourage more of you ladies to join these terrific associate clubs; if you enjoy playing different challenging Courses and if you are interested in forming camaraderie with other women golfers, then these "traveling teams" are definitely for you.  Feel free to give either Linda or myself a call; we'd love to talk to you about joining and the benefits of membership.

Lady Niner's October Club Championship Rounds - East Course:
Don't forget that October 6th and October 13th are the designated dates for this year's Club Championship.  Round #1 will be on the Front nine followed on the13th with Round #2 on the Back nine.  Please stay tuned for details regarding our "Congratulations Party" that will follow after Round #2.  Perhaps I should inform that Linda Yates and I (as your Tournament Chairs) have our thinking caps on, which means this could be more fun than monkeys or a scary proposition (who knows, after all it is the month of BOO!)

Before I report recent sweeps results, JoAnn has asked that I be sure to remind you once again that our General Meeting date was changed from September 15th to Thursday, October 13th.  She will have more details in the October 1st "News", and will have information posted in the Pro Shop.

Oakmont News November 15th, 2011 Edition
Oakmont 9-Hole Women's Club
Rebecca Wellman, Publicity Chair

Wow, how is it possible that we're really winding down our Niner activities as this 2011
year quickly approaches its end?   But here we are having completed another
outstanding Halloween tournament and luncheon and followed that popular event with
the 2011 Captain's Appreciation Luncheon (which was held on November 9th) and today
we're all realizing that Thanksgiving is just another week away.  Each of us knows what
that means; it's time to begin preparing for those Christmas and New Year's festivities.
It also signals that we will celebrate JoAnn Banayat and Linda Frediani's hard work as
2011 Captain and Co-Captain, it will also be time for us to welcome in 2012 Captain
Nancy Young and her Co-Captain Jeanine Haggerty, and then we'll begin our beautiful
cycle of life as Lady Niners all over again with open play in January and February.  I am
told that the production of the 2012 Niner Roster Book is well underway and will be
presented at the Wearin'O'the Green Mixer Tournament and Luncheon scheduled for
Thursday, March 8th, 2012 and so the world turns!

Speaking of the holidays, I'd like to share a note from our dear friend and teammate
Marilyn Shaver who asks us to please continue our support for the "Living Room":
"During the Christmas season the Women golfers of Oakmont have donated socks to
the Living Room, a drop-in shelter for homeless and at risk women and children.  Your
donations have been greatly appreciated.  We are asking again for your donations of
women and children socks.  Baskets will soon be in both the East and West Pro Shops.
Should you have questions please do not hesitate to call me (Marilyn Shaver at 538-
8668)".  I would like to add to Marilyn's note that even though some may think of socks
as such a little thing, to those without, it's a huge gift and it truly matters to those in dire
need!  Please support this cause and make this year's donations the largest ever!

Oakmont News - December 1st Edition
Thursday, Women 9-Hole Club
Rebecca Wellman, Publicity Chair

Happy Holidays to All!
The Lady Niners would like to start off this edition by congratulating Josie DiBenedetto
for garnering first place in her flight at the PWGA Nine Hole Tournament of Champions
on October 25th held at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.  Josie and Henni
Williston represented our club in outstanding fashion.  Way to go Ladies!

Don't forget that our Christmas Luncheon will be held on Thursday, December 15th at
the Quail Inn starting at 11:30 am.  If you haven't signed up you still have a few days left
to do so.   Cost is $23.oo per person with your OGC account billed directly.  The signup
sheet will remain posted on the East Pro Shop bulletin board for another week.
Luncheon Chairs, Elaine Foote and Janet Siela with the help of two of our Social
members, Gerry Carleton and Rose Callori have planned a beautiful luncheon befitting
the spirit of the season.  The Holiday Luncheon not only holds the long held tradition of
sharing the joy of the season but also gives us the added poignant moments as one
reigning Captain passes the torch onto the next generation of able ladies who will lead
us into and through the next year.  With that said, 2011 Captain JoAnn Banayat shares
a heartfelt note of thanks to all:
"I want to thank all of the Niners that have helped throughout the year.  We were very
fortunate to have 49 of our 102 Niner membership volunteer in some capacity to help the club stay strong and make it a fun 2011 Niner Year.  I am pleased to announce the
2012 Board has every position filled.  We have all of our 2012 Sweep Scorers signed
up.  We even have all of our 2012 Luncheon Chairs in place with their committees.  This
year, 2011 has really been a rewarding year for me.  I want to thank my Co-Captain,
Linda Frediani and the rest of the outgoing 2011 Niner Board for all of their help and
support.  A special thanks to Linda Yates for all of her help.  A really big thank you goes
to 2012 Captain Nancy Young and her new incoming 2012 Niner Board.  I know they
will do a fabulous job.  You "Niners" are the best and I am so proud to have been your
2011 Captain."
Warm regards,
JoAnn Banayat
2011 Oakmont Lady Niners Captain
