OAKMONT WOMEN NINERS
APRIL 14, 2011
GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

JoAnn Banayat, Captain, called the meeting to order at 12:06pm on April 14, 2011.
Ruth Levy didn't read the minutes to save time, however they were approved.

Joan McDonnell read the treasurers' report saying that the Niner check book balance as of January 1, 2011 was $598.89 and the balance as of 4/14/11 was Niners $1973.39 and Wrens $206.79.  It was moved and seconded to accept the 2011 budget and 2010 year-end profit and loss summary.

Co-Captain/Luncheon Chair Linda Frediani explained a new signup procedure for 9R's which is as follows:
You can sign up for Tuesday and Thursday golf by signing the signup sheet. Post your OGC # and name If you can't make it, then call & cancel ahead of time and let those you signed up with know preferably the night before that you won't be playing.

For Luncheons sign-ups, you need to sign up on the sign-up sheet with your name and OGC #.  You will be billed by OGC on your regular monthly billing or you can take your check directly to Carol in OGC office.    If your name is on the signup sheet you will be billed unless you take your name off prior to cancellation date for luncheon. Ehrin orders food and we must pay for it, so you need to cancel prior to the deadline date.

Linda also reported on "Wearing of the Green" Raffle was successful we made $218 from the raffle. They are still looking for donations for the raffle. Take raffle items to JoAnn Banayat and she will store it.

Rebecca Wellman reported on the Upcoming event Guys, Gals, and Pals Derby Days. Last year was an enormous success. Signups are low, guys have Grover's tournament day before. Mother's Day is following Sunday and Twilighter is following Monday.  Everything is same, the second time around, visually exciting, with big hats, don't worry about foursomes; we will put you in one.  If you can't play, come for the luncheon so you can watch the event.  Discussion ensued about changing the date to a later time.  JoAnn will need to check it out with Ehrin and Jim.  Members would like to have 5/26/11.  JoAnn will send out an email with the new decided date.

Tournament Coordinator Joan Eiserloh and Janie Rietow: next week special fun guest day with alternate shots, $2 sweeps and scramble with handicaps (cut in half) Guys, Gals and Pals, will be a step aside shamble

Year-long Eclectic w/Sarah Wood deadline is the 21st of April.  Play once or all six times. You will still pay sweeps as regular.

JoAnn thanked Judy Howell for doing a great job as sweeps chair.

Judy Howell reported she hasn't had any calls or issues.  All is going well.
Sweeps assistant Audrey Engen announced the requirements were 16 for sweeps now only need 12 to start. The money would be refunded to players if not enough players.

Handicap Chair Henni Williston reported that she now has a backup person in Rebecca W.  Henni will be here for the next two handicap lists. She will be on vacation for a week.  Because we are under PWGA the next away event is at Fountain Grove $85 on May 23, 2011.  Also the Wrens and North Bay Group usually provide less expensive at around $60.  Henni also explained that new members can turn in either 9 or 18 hole scores to get a handicap. (10-9 holes or 5-18 holes as long as there are total of 10-9 holes to post so a handicap can be figured)

Rebecca Wellman- Oakmont News said there hasn't been a lot to report with all the inclimate weather.

She announced that B.R. Cohen is coming to Oakmont with a Wine Dinner and Golf Tournament July 23rd. There will be flyers and it will be going out all the golf clubs, courses, members, wine club members etc.  It is not a charity tournament.  The cost to Oakmont members is $65 w/five course dinner and wine parings plus cost of golf.  Foursomes. Usually Wine club members pay at least $150.

JoAnn Banayat--Communications: Emails John Williston all of the information and he posts it to the website.  She is attempting to schedule a meeting with John to train her so she can post to the 9R site.  Lots of fun stuff, so check it out.

Social member chair Valerie Boot is absent. JoAnn B. gave report 28 social members; Valerie calls each one for each event.  She does a great job.  Usually we have a table of 10-12 of the social members. Several said how nice it was to meet them & have them at
their table.

Membership: Donna James with assistant Shirley Glass. Donna reported we are having a luncheon to honor our 5 new members of 2010 and our 11 following new members of 2011.  Barbara  Brown, Peggy Giannini, Marie Hunter, Barb Smith, Barbara Robinson, Debbie Kiddoo, Kris Peters, Cathie Cunningham, Jane Fulkerson, and Jeanie Haggerty.    Several new members are attending the meeting and were introduced.

Ruth Levy Historian reported pictures are up on the website for Wearing of the Green and Wrens Meeting.

Linda Yates reported on Rules book cost $2, good idea to keep in your golf bag.
Etiquette rule says you must keep moving along, if you're in a cart driving w/friend already have your club ready or walk to your ball to save time.  Keep up with group in front of you!

Winter rules: discussion took place to clear up confusion as to bump or not etc.
You can't as long as you can drive your cart on fairway.  If you hit into the rough you can hit a provisional.  Discussion ensued. If in bunker must stay in bunker.  If in rough you can put it on fairway.  Wrens always play a 6 inch bump, which is where the confusion takes place.

Linda reminded everyone to call ahead of time if they are canceling their tee time.

Joan E. asked Linda to review out of bounds rule or hitting a provisional ball:
You let everyone else tee off.  Then you can hit your provisional ball.  It is courtesy & in some team play situations you have to be play in a certain order.
Rebecca reminded if you have a tee time be there on time.

Play Thru Rule: You Go Ahead & Tee Off, then let them Tee Off and play thru. That way everyone walks/rides to their ball & is ready to go when it is their teams' turn. Ready Golf!  In our 9R groups we must keep up.  There is a 5 minute rule if looking for ball in the rough.  If you hit a ball into the rough you can hit a provisional. Otherwise, if you can't find it in the rough you must go back to where you last hit and take a one stroke penalty.

Maria Mar thanked everyone for letting her know about illness/death.  She got a nice Thank you card from Norma Person.

JoAnn said 9hole PWGA tournament is $23 for members for lunch and sweeps plus golf fees on West July 14th.  Non members-$50 includes, lunch, cart, golf, sweeps.

NBWGA June 6 18-hole $23 for members for lunch and sweeps plus golf fees.
Non members-$57   includes, lunch, cart, golf, sweeps.
Wrens dues $4    NBWGA $3 dues.  Get to travel. Lots of fun.

Tuesday tee times are 9-9:30am.  One week it will be 9:30-10 on East course when the Thursday 18 holers are playing the East.  We will follow their field.
No sweeps for now in April & May.  Maybe in June.
Side note:  4/16/11 per Jim Carra on Thursday, the 18 holers have extended their tee times form 8-10.  To follow their field, Niner tee times will be 10-10.30 on the following dates  April 5,  May 3,  June 7,  July 5,  August 2,  August 30.

On Thurs regular tee times are 8-9:30am and during the winter tee times are 9-10:30am.

New business: JoAnn suggested a once a month color of the day. Fun!  On June 23rd Golf Bingo.

JoAnn announced that most improved golfer; Ruth Levy got wine last year. JoAnn budgeted $ for most improved golfer trophy & hopefully one for Eclectic winner.

Post minutes on website or bulletin board so we do not have to read them at the meetings out loud.

Rebecca suggested a review of bulletin board.

Janie R. at tournaments, let people know ahead if canceling, not the day of the event.  It is very hard for the tournament chairs to shuffle foursomes the morning of the event.

Next General Meeting will be in September, date to be announced. @ Noon.  Current date conflicts with Wrens play day.

Meeting adjourned at 1:30.
